That’s right – usually inter-island flights in the Canaries are little propeller planes, but today we were upgraded to one of Binter’s big jets, and I’ve never been so excited. Honestly, I was like a schoolboy. It was the fastest flight I’ve ever had between the islands – smooth, quick, and so much fun that I even spent €50 on a Binter model jet plane!

Las Palmas Gran Canaria Airport, officially called Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria (IATA: LPA), is the main gateway to the island and the busiest airport in the Canary Islands. It’s located in Telde, just 25 km south of Las Palmas city and 30 km north of Maspalomas/Playa del Inglés.

🟢 Flying with Binter Airways

Binter is the flag carrier airline of the Canary Islands and connects all the islands daily. Most flights are on ATR 72 propeller planes, but occasionally, you might get one of their Embraer E195-E2 jets – and that’s exactly what happened today.

The difference? The jets are faster, quieter, and feel more like a "proper" plane compared to the prop flights. And for such a short hop (around 40 minutes to Lanzarote), it was an absolute dream.

Get there early in summer – queues at security can build up.

Cheapest food – head to the upstairs food court near Burger King.

Car hire – Cicar, TopCar, and AutoReisen desks are right in arrivals.

Bus links – Global Bus connects the airport with Las Palmas, Maspalomas, and Playa del Inglés. Route 60 goes straight to Las Palmas.

Best seating – Gates C are usually for inter-island flights, and they’re quieter than the main international gates.
