Krystol Austin is a Master of Architecture candidate at Syracuse University who’s passionate about bamboo, biophilia, climate change and mental accessibility. She’s most noted for being Gensler’s 2021 Rising Black Designer, and the 2021 James Britton Memorial Thesis Award Recipient. For her inspiring Ted Talk she presents her award winning thesis proposal “Schizophrenic Architecture” a title which works as a double entendre to champions for inclusive, mentally accessible and sustainable architectural design approaches in urban spaces. In this Ted Talk she talks about her journey into the design profession and how assisting with her mom’s rehabilitation has led to her unique design perspective.
