Defining Confined Spaces

One of the most important aspects of the confined space standard is identifying what confined spaces are. OSHA defines a confined space as a space large enough and so configured that a worker can bodily enter and perform his/her assigned work, has limited or restricted means for entry or exit and is not designed for continuous human occupancy.
