Aftoktonia (Norway) — Mystical Eclipses of Distant Constellations — 2025 full length

Ascending from its shadowed orbit once again, Aftoktonia unveils a chapter honed by pressure, abrasion, and the cold indifference of the void. This fourth emanation feels chiselled from ancient stone yet still tethered to the eerie luminosity that once swirled as vapour around its earliest rites. What previously glimmered now scorches, what once drifted as a faint astral sigh now arrives as a blade of winter, devoid of its former celestial shimmer. Here, the project stands in its starkest structure, fiercely unadorned, even if not entirely stripped of its spectral glow.

Its core remains forged from the collision between harsh and atmospheric blackened currents, yet with its shifted equilibrium. The severe and unyielding guitars rise as jagged frost-ridden towers, while the percussion gains an almost insurgent edge, where the sudden punk-inflected patterns crack through the storm with its rebellious d-beat. The ambience, once a guiding star in Aftoktonia’s constellation, has receded into a funereal silence, replaced by an aesthetic echoing the twisted devotion found in entities such as Orgy of Carrion, Ghaisiuan, or the necrotic haze of Blackest Night’s Mist.

Yet the record is not hollowed by this shift, it embraces instead a more claustrophobic kind of cosmic ruin, where the absence of light is as expressive as its presence once was.
As the constellation cycle closes, the listener remains suspended in a fragile equilibrium, caught between the grinding rawness and the faint memory of something once luminous. The echo that lingers is neither wholly external nor entirely internal, perhaps a murmur awakened by the record’s relentless winds, whispering from some forgotten chamber of the mind.
