Join me for A Mouse in the House, the 32nd Tom and Jerry theatrical short, released on August 30, 1947, directed by William Hanna & Joseph Barbera, produced by Fred Quimby, with music by Scott Bradley, and starring Mammy Two Shoes, Tom, Butch, and Jerry. When Mammy discovers her kitchen in destruction, she orders Tom and Butch: only one cat may stay, and the one who catches Jerry gets the job. Things escalate into a frenetic cat vs. cat competition—complete with novelty weapons, fireplace logs slammed into paws, and deceptive pranks as both vie for the prize. Jerry steps back to mock the rivalry, occasionally aiding in the chaos. In the end, the cats’ infighting backfires, and one twist sees both Tom and Butch thrown out of the house—along with Jerry himself! The short closes on Jerry’s ever-sly and victorious grin. Praised for its blistering pace and madcap physical comedy, this entry returns to the “mouse in the house” formula with sharper sight gags—especially the absurd sequence where each cat impersonates Mammy to claim the mouse.
