7029 Clun Castle INCREDIBLE NOISE on the Final Shakespeare Express of 2025 on Remembrance Sunday!

Many people believed that 7029 Clun Castle made her final run on last week's Farewell to Steam Special. However, Vintage Trains decided to give Clun Castle another run on what is the final Shakespeare Express of 2025 on Remembrance Sunday. The powerful Great Western Castle steam locomotive has been a rip roaring success on the mainline in recent years. So much so that the locomotive will have a retube during the winter and not being withdrawn from service for overhaul. This means that the Castle will have a new boiler and mainline ticket from next year onwards according to Michael Whitehouse, The Chairman of Vintage Trains.

On this special occasion, I managed to get three shots of Clun Castle performing faultlessly as usual, and sounding absolutely incredible. My first shot was at a foot crossing on the outskirts of Droitwich Spa at Salwarpe. The locomotive was accelerating away from Worcester and sounding magnificent whilst hauling the train towards Droitwich. My next shot was at Lapworth Station to see Clun Castle accelerating away from Dorridge, and sounding amazing with the noise almost ear breaking as Clun Castle thunders past the station making up for lost time being 10 minutes late. My final shot was at Danzey to see Clun Castle climbing up the long hill towards Birmingham. Clun Castle sounded brilliant as ever and was even running early as the Castle bark echoed in the distance. Luckily, a service train arrived a minute after the train had past the station, so we nearly got bowled. You could say it was a successful day out.
