Circular Economy | Design Guide Launch | ACAN

This was the launch of the ACAN Circular Economy Design Guide & Circular strategy RIBA Workflow Overlay.

In this video, ACAN's Circular Economy team introduced and summarised the contents of the guide, and how and where it is hoped it will be used most effectively. The guide and the overlay, now available on ACAN website via the link below, represent a culmination of hard work and contributions by multiple skilled individuals from across the industry, over the past 3 years.

Following the successful completion of the 'Circular Series' lunchtime sessions in 2021, a report was produced to collate all the valuable information presented during these events. More recently, and to assist with concluding the guide, the 'Closing the Loop' workshop in November 2023 called for input to help identify key strategic actions for a building’s end of life.

We are both excited to see this guide in use within the built environment and interested to see how it will inevitably develop and progress over time, as new knowledge and processes are developed in our mission to create a far more circular economy. We would also like to use this as an opportunity to thank all those that have contributed.

This event introduces our planned next steps for 2024: a series of workshop discussing the current barriers to the wider uptake of circular strategies within the industry, with the aim to formulate a campaign.

Welcome to the OFFICIAL Architects Climate Action Network (ACAN) YouTube channel! Architects Climate Action Network is a network of individuals from within architecture and it’s related built environment professions taking action to address the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown.

We recognise the compelling scientific consensus that our present trajectory will lead to catastrophe if we do not make ambitious and radical changes as a matter of urgency. We are already seeing the consequences. We also acknowledge that the built environment is a major contributing factor to the climate crisis and as such requires complete and rapid transformation (which we are yet to witness).

We can no longer remain secluded within personal and professional silos and instead must harness our agency as citizens with shared professional backgrounds to bring about the necessary changes to our industry. As a network of individuals, ACAN is able to act at speed, without conflict of interest, and is open to methods that may be unavailable to other campaign organisations.
