Standing on one leg is a great exercise to improve her balance on one foot. This is an important skill, because when you are walking, you must balance on one leg or the other 60-70% of the time while you complete stepping with each foot.  Standing on 1 foot on a firm surface is easiest. To increase your challenge stand on something soft such as a couch cushion or foam pad. To further increase your challenge, you can move the leg you are not standing on in random directions, while causes you standing leg to react appropriately to keep your balance. If you want to make this exercise, extremely difficult, close your eyes! To keep yourself safe while performing this exercise, it is recommended that you perform single leg stance close to something that you can hold on to should you suddenly need the balance support.
