Spirituality in Healthcare Finance... The Metaphysical Dominates Over the Physical.

Note: I fall short of the Golden Rule every day.

One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 127:
"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain."

To relates this verse to Spirituality in healthcare finance, let's replace:
Lord with Spirituality
House with Hospital or Insurance Company
Builders with Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Workers, Underwriters, Salespeople and Case Managers
City with Healthcare System
Guards with Politicians, Boards of Directors and Executives

Spirituality is so important in healthcare finance because it is so easy to exploit people for money when it comes to issues of survival.

Doctors and hospitals can provide too much care and spend too little time with patients.
Conversely...
Insurance companies can provide too little care (through denials and prior authorization) and take up too much time (during the prior auth process and withholding payment of claims).

Spirituality is rooted in Love which is manifested in the Golden Rule of 'Treating others the way you want to be treated.'

In essence, the Golden Rule is the opposite of exploitation and it is a step that each of us can take in healthcare.
