Quarter Panel Removal - Mazda MX5 Miata Rust Repair Pt. 2

Welcome back to Underdog Garage! Today is one of the more nerve-wracking moments of this project....cutting out the MX5 rear quarter panel

In part 2 of the Miata Rust Repair Series, We go deeper and we cut off the Quarter panel so we can get access to the Miata rocker panel rust.

When cutting off the quarter panel we tried not to go too deep. A lot of panels meet near the rocker, so we didn't want to cut anything off the Miata that we weren't replacing. The panels are about 20 gauge steel, so it cuts fairly quickly and easily.

I’m using an air powered cutting tool to cut through the rocker panel, but an electric one works just as well. Using an undersized cutting disc helped me maintain control while I was cutting into the
rocker panel.
