CTA's 7000 Series 'L' Cars Begin In-Service Testing on the Skokie Swift (Yellow Line)

CTA's next generation of rail cars enter in service testing for the first time on the Yellow Line, otherwise known as the Skokie Swift. Every new rail car series does 1 year of in service testing on all rail lines to ensure they fit accordingly across the whole 'L' system and in all weather conditions.
CTA's 7000 Series cars, being built by CRRC Sifang America, will replace CTA's 2600 Series cars which were built between 1981-87 and are currently the oldest in the fleet. The base order for the cars is 400 cars. If all options are picked up for 846 railcars, the 7000 Series will also replace 3200 Series cars, built 1992-94 by Morrison-Knudsen. The cars are expected to run on the Blue, Brown, and Orange Lines.
