Layering correctly when drawing a realistic dog nose is by far one of the most important processes. This pastel tutorial shows why layering is so valuable in creating that 3D shape when drawing a dogs nose. If you're finding the noses of the subject you are drawing are flatter and a little square looking it's almost always because there isn't sufficient layers to build the required depth.
