Neptune 3 / 4 MAX – New Y-Axis Upgrade Rail Installation Guide
The machine shown in this video is the new version.
Before installation, please confirm whether your machine’s Y-axis carriage is the old version or the new version. The difference is in Step 16, where the new version requires aluminum spacers from the spare parts.
For Neptune 3 MAX, please ignore Steps 3 and 25 during installation.
1. Remove the build platform and unscrew the hand-tightened nuts. Keep them for later use.
2. Remove the screws securing the middle part of the heated bed.
3. Carefully unplug the Y-axis accelerometer cable.
4. Remove the heated bed plate. Keep the springs and screws for later use.
5. Fully loosen the Y-axis belt tensioner.
6. Remove the Y-axis rear cover and set it aside.
7. Slide the Y-axis carriage out of the aluminum extrusion.
Note: Keep the belt and the limit switch screws as they are.
8. Reinstall the Y-axis rear cover onto the machine.
9. Remove the 6 POM wheels from the carriage.
10. Insert M4*8 screws and M4 T-nuts into the long rail bracket.
(Do not fully tighten — just screw in about 2 turns.)
11. Mount the long bracket onto the aluminum extrusion.
Front to back: The bracket should be 25 mm from the back end of the machine.
Top to bottom: The bottom of the bracket should touch the machine case; the top should be flush with the frame.
12. (Optional) Use masking tape to mark the threaded hole positions on the long bracket.
13. Use M3*5 screws to attach the linear rail onto the long bracket.
Don’t fully tighten the screws yet. After completing Step 18, slide the carriage back and forth a few times before tightening them.
14. Use M3*8 screws to attach the short bracket onto the slider block.
15. Here you need to determine if your machine is the latest version.
16.If it is the latest version, place the aluminum spacer (from the spares) on the short bracket, then place the silicone pad on top of the spacer.
If it’s the older version, simply place the silicone pad directly on the short bracket (no aluminum spacer needed).
17. Use M5 screws to secure the Y-axis carriage onto the support bracket.
Pay attention to orientation — the accelerometer should be at the rear-left corner of the machine.
Start by screwing into the two small holes on the slider block first, then secure the rest.
18. Reinstall the belt tensioner.
Ensure the belt loops properly over both the drive pulley and the idler pulley — don’t twist it.
19. After sliding the Y-axis carriage back and forth, tighten the linear rail screws.
20. Loosen the M5 screws slightly first, and then tighten them again.
21. Reinstall the heated bed onto the slider block, making sure to include the springs.
22. Reattach the hand-tightened nuts onto the bed screws.
23. Tighten the two central screws of the heated bed.
24. Put the build platform back on the heated bed.
25. Reconnect the accelerometer cable.
The upgrade is now complete. Please re-level your machine before printing (refer to the official leveling tutorial). Thank you!
