What Is Antitrust. Antitrust laws are regulations that encourage competition in the market by limiting the power of any particular firm. It ensures that when mergers between companies occur, it doesn’t concentrate market power on one firm.

When one firm has an overly concentrated market power, it’s called a monopoly. Antitrust laws would then regulate this by breaking up this firm in order for other firms to participate and encourage healthy competition.
