Van road trip part 2 we show every thing you need to know when camping in Amsterdam. We stay in the excellent Amsterdam Forrest campsite known as Het Amsterdamse Bos, we spend 3 days visiting the city travelling in by bike and bus. In this video we give a tour and review of the campsite, show you what it's like to cycle into the city, advise on bus connections, visit Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, take a Canal Cruise. Show you whats supermarkets and restaurants are near the campsite.
SEE BELOW Details on the Campsite, Amsterdam activities, Supermarkets & Restaurants close to the campsite, Cycling and parking your bike and bus connections.
The Campsite is run by Euro Parcs https://www.europarcshetamsterdamsebo...
Its in Amsterdam forest so you are surround by trees and water, its very idyllic. There are many paths in the area you can walk and cycle. The site had very good facilities and they seems to be enough even when it got busy, and there are peak times where you may have to wait a short while for a shower. People did seem to keep them clean. It's not far from the airport and in the day you can hear the planes but we didn't hear them at night so they didn't disturb us. The site has a pretty well stocked shop, a place to get coffee and take away food and you can hire bikes.
In Amsterdam
Lovers Canal Cruises https://www.lovers.nl
Anne Frank House (book 6 weeks in advance as its gets sold out) https://www.annefrank.org/en/
Van Gogh Museum (we recommend the audio guide) https://tickets.vangoghmuseum.com/en/...
Café 't Monumentje (Westerstraat 120, 1015 MP) we loved this bar, it was so friendly at felt like it was full of locals. They also have lots of board games.
De Halle Foodhall is a good place for lunch after Van Gogh or another museum in the area, its a 10 min tram or a 22 min walk
Vondelpark - We had originally planned to get some food and sit in the park for lunch after Van Gogh but due to the rain that day we couldn't but we cycled through it and its a lovely park so definitely worth a visit.
Close By to the Campsite
Bovenkerk - 15 min walk or a 3 min cycle from campsite; two restaurants Silversant where we has excellent meals and Colijn we saw but didn't eat there.
Westwijk - 25 min walk or a 7 minute cycle from the campsite, there is are the Albert Heijn
and Voordeelmarkt supermarkets as well a few more shops and takeaways in this small town centre.

Bus Connections
Bus stop outside the Campsite, to get to the city get a bus to Airport and change (when changing be careful to get the bus in the direction of the city, we didn't).
Bus stop at Westwijk has direct buses to the Museum Quarter (Van Gogh etc)
Cycling to the City
The cycle paths are excellent, this is a city where cycling in in charge (so watch out for bikes when you are walking around). The campsite is 10km from Dam Square, although Google Maps says 45 mins we found it to be about 60 mins, perhaps we cycle slower, but it also depends on how many red traffic lights you get. The Museum quarter is a little closer so it will be quicker. The route from the campsite is forest for around 20/25 minutes of the journey before you get to the outskirts of the city. Depending on the time you are travelling it can get bus with bikes during rush hour, but even when it did we felt safe. There are cycle tracks all of the way until you get into the old centre but this is fine if you take it easy. This was our favourite method travel into Amsterdam as you see so much more of Amsterdam.
Parking & Locking your bike Safely
When you are visit the centre use the underground bike park BEURSPLEIN that we did, its free for tourists and only 2.5 euros a day for locals. It feels like a safe place to park.
Link to parking https://venhoevencs.nl/projects/bicyc...
When we visit Anne Frank we locked our bikes to railings on a bridge this also felt safe as there are many people about.
Make sure you have a good D lock and if you can connect your bikes together if you have 2 or more, this gave us confidence they would be there on our return.
Don't leave your bike down a quiet street.
Have a great time in Amsterdam, we did.
