This session was presented at the IEF Solar Car Conference 2021 by Hai-Yue Han, and covers best design practices for automotive grade electronics, including but not limited to: connector selection, over voltage and over current protection, ESD protection, input protection, electronics architecture (old Tesla Model S vs Tesla Model 3 and how it applies to solar car), passives selection (resistors, capacitors), how to use a transistor, watch dogs, isolation barriers and other things Hai-Yue learned at Tesla to make electronics more robust. This sessions also covers how to make electronics test fixtures (e.g. "bucks" and "mules") so that EE team can be unblocked when the car is not yet made. Reliability of the solar car is critical to passing inspection and not ending up on the side of the track/road during the event.
