民主為誰所有？地球為誰所有？Charles Derber｜Who Owns Democracy, and Our Planet? (2024.6.21)

📍Charles Derber is Professor of Department of Sociology, Boston College. In this talk, Dr. Derber draws on his 2023 book, Dying for Capitalism: How Big Money Fuels Extinction and What We Can Do About It, and discusses the “triangle of extinction,” which links capitalism, climate change and war. He also draws on his 2024 book, Who Owns Democracy: The Struggle Over Class and Caste in America, and talks about the dynamics of the existential peril and the politics of warding off extinction while creating a resilient democracy. The Q&A session is a gem, where Dr. Derber makes the case that history is the best place to look for activists to find strength and hope in perilous times.
