Caught In a Lie With a Bag Full of Snapper - Florida Keys

On October 13, 2024, a deputy with Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol when he observed an individual fishing along the shoreline. The officer made contact to conduct a fisheries inspection.

In the end, both suspects were charged with possession of undersized snapper and being over the snapper bag limit. Both pled no contest and their adjudication was withheld. The sentencing included 24 hours of community service with the option to buy out at $10 per hour and 6 months of probation with the possibility of early termination. During the probationary period, he was not allowed to fish or dive in Monroe County waters. They were each ordered to pay $733 in costs and fines. Both ultimately paid their fines and met the conditions, but one needed the scare of a warrant for his arrest to do so.
