From Shadows to Spotlight: A Global Movement to Protect Boys from Sexual Violence

In this webinar, we draw attention to one of the most neglected child protection issues — sexual violence against boys. Despite affecting an estimated 1 in 7 boys worldwide, this issue remains largely under-addressed. We aim to raise awareness, strengthen advocacy efforts, promote survivor-centered approaches, and mobilise support for an official UN-recognised International Day for Protecting Boys from Sexual Violence.

We are delighted to be joined by Mama Fatima Singhateh, UN Special Rapporteur on the Sale and Sexual Exploitation of Children as the keynote speaker for the webinar.

Together we will learn more about the issue, the data and data gaps, policy blind spots and inclusive child protection. We will explore what needs to change and how governments and international bodies can work together to ensure gender-inclusive child protection frameworks.

We will also hear directly from young people with lived experience about the importance of survivor-centred advocacy around this topic, and the role of the Blue Umbrella Day campaign.
