📘 FINAL DESCRIPTION (Lecture-Style, Conceptual & Exam-Oriented)
🌍 Namaste Dear Students! 🙏
Welcome to Ionic Equilibrium – Lecture 2, a continuation of the foundational concepts introduced in Lecture 1.
This lecture focuses on the most important theoretical backbone of the Ionic Equilibrium chapter — Acids, Bases and Salts through classical and modern acid–base theories.
In this session, I — Krishna Kumar Sah (ChembyKKSir) — systematically explain Arrhenius, Brønsted–Lowry and Lewis acid–base concepts, with special and detailed emphasis on the Brønsted–Lowry theory, which is most frequently used in NEET and JEE questions.
Special attention is given to conjugate acid–base pairs and their direct connection with salt hydrolysis, which later helps in understanding pH, buffer solutions and hydrolysis numericals.
⸻
🧪 Topics Covered — Ionic Equilibrium Lecture 2
1️⃣ Acids, Bases and Salts (Conceptual Continuation)
• Classification of acids and bases
• Nature of salts in aqueous solution
• Link between acid–base strength and salt behavior
2️⃣ Arrhenius Acid–Base Concept
• Definition of Arrhenius acid and base
• Limitation of Arrhenius concept
• Applicability only in aqueous medium
3️⃣ Brønsted–Lowry Acid–Base Concept (Main Focus)
• Acid as proton donor, base as proton acceptor
• Conjugate acid–base pairs
• Relative strength of conjugate pairs
• Strong acid → weak conjugate base (no hydrolysis)
• Weak acid → strong conjugate base (undergoes hydrolysis)
• Direction of equilibrium in proton transfer reactions
• NCERT-based chemical examples
4️⃣ Hydrolysis Logic (Conceptual Foundation)
• Why salts of strong acid + strong base do not hydrolyze
• Why salts of weak acid + strong base undergo hydrolysis
• Conceptual preparation for pH of salt solutions
5️⃣ Lewis Acid–Base Concept
• Electron pair acceptor and donor concept
• Relationship with coordination chemistry
• Comparison with Brønsted–Lowry concept
