In this episode of Back to Basics, we spend as little as possible for maximum insulation—getting the old house ready for the winter ahead.
We harvest our very first olives and head to the lagar to press our own oil for the first time.
Back on the land, I cut into another long-abandoned terrace, smothered in blackberry for years.
But first… the 4x4 slasher needs to get in there.
And finally, we drive out to explore the harsh, beautiful landscape of Serra da Estrela—the highest mountains in mainland Portugal.
But before any of that…
let’s get the house a little warmer for the winter that’s coming.
