Ballads in the Wilderness Series - Luddites on Location
Dear Friends, I can't introduce this song without first introducing my good friend, cowboy singer, Skip Gorman. Skip and I met many years ago around a campfire at the High Island Ranch Wyoming, and since then we have shared musical adventures too numerous to recount.
It was from Skip I learned “When First Into This Country”. It's a bittersweet account of a young man's regret over what he did for love. In the video, I am in the midst of an impromptu gathering of mules (and Teddy, the horse) at our camp on Porcupine Creek, Montana. Listeners have told me they use my music to help their children fall asleep - and I guess it works on livestock, too!
You'll see a cameo appearance by my friends Wade and Alaina, leading their mule strings (carrying hay and groceries) into camp. You won't find finer people or better camp jacks. My deepest thanks to them, to our trail boss, Craig Neal, and to all of you for listening.
