In this Road to Master episode, I review my most recent club game and it’s a tough one! I’m paired against last year’s club champion: a very solid and experienced opponent known for his passive but incredibly resilient style.
I try to challenge him right from the start by choosing the dynamic and tricky Old Benoni Defense, hoping to create imbalances and pressure him into unfamiliar territory. But he stays disciplined, avoids the traps, and doesn’t give me any easy targets to work with.
We soon reach a slow-burning but strategically rich middlegame, where every small detail counts. In this video, I walk you through the critical positional ideas, plans and how to keep pushing for chances even when the position seems locked up and equal.
