White

Circumnavigation of Svalbard aboard Atlas Ocean Voyages' yacht World Voyager on 20 - 31 July 2025.

Our encounters with "White" on the afternoon and night of 23 July 2025 in Storfjorden & Sundbukta, Svalbard. They included White Whales (Beluga), the White Wall of the Negribreen ( the glacier's face stretches for 30-km.), and a White Bear (our first ever Polar Bear). Observing the Beluga whales was made more difficult by distance and shooting into the sun while shallow water kept us at about 0.9km away from the polar bear. While watching the polar bear, I was distracted by Common and King Eider that flew by. When the polar bear disappeared over a ridge on the island, we sailed around to the back side and found it sleeping in an open field so we proceeded on to our overnight anchorage in Sundbukta.
