Lambaréné is famous for its legendary hospital: the Albert-Schweitzer Hospital. Over 100 years ago, its founder, Albert-Schweitzer, wanted to create a place that fostered humanitarian engagement and respect for the environment
His idea was to build a free clinic, designed to be like an African village, where the families of patients would actively participate in the care and healing of the sick.
A place where all life would be sacred, whether human or animal.
