Eid al-Adha. This is our Ramadan 2018 trip to the famous grand mosque of Cotabato City. It is one of the biggest mosque in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao and ultimately in the Philippines. The Grand Mosque also known as Sultan Hassal Bolkiah Masjid of Brgy Kalangannan Dos, Cotabato City. This is funded by the Sultan of Brunei amounting to almost Php 300 million, and holds the title as the largest mosque in the Philippines.
The mosques minarets 141 feet tall (43 meters) and is topped by pilot lights, to avoid accidents.
The domes painted in gold are adorned by crescent moons. Islamic designs crafted the walls, doors, floors and even the walls plus the array of stunning arches. The grand mosque can accommodate 800 male and 400 female worshippers. t is built along the rivervank of Tamontaka river, draining to the Moro Gulf. And on its right is the Timako Island, known for its rich biodiversity. The magnificent mosque occupies 5000 square meters of a 5-hectare land.
