The heyday of Ruperra Castle as a family owned country house and estate had finally come to an end. Ruperra Castle was put up for sale in 1934 but there were no takers in the depressed times of the 1930s. There soon came a very important new role in the life of Ruperra Castle in preparation for the outbreak of the Second World War, the Castle was requisitioned by the War Office.
Today it is hard to visualise the quiet countryside with soldiers "all about the place all the time" as one young girl described it. After the war no attempt was made to restore the beautiful house or protect the ruin from further destruction.
