DIY Macrame Tutorial/Mini Wall Hanging - Intermediate Pattern Using Double Half Hitch Knots!

Hey guys! I’ve got an intermediate pattern for you today that uses double half hitch knots.

This pattern can be used as a stand alone pattern to create a mini wall hanging or the pattern can be incorporated into a larger wall hanging design. Let’s get started.

You will need 6 strands of cord, each strand is 4m long. Fold each strand in half and attach to your dowel using Lark’s Head knots.

Top Half of Diamond
Tie a double half hitch knot with the two middle cords. Working down and to the right tie 5 diagonal double half hitch knots. Repeat on the left side of your work.
Create another layer using the same process.

Centre of Diamond
Using the middle left cord as your working cord and the cord to the left of that as your filler cord, tie one vertical double half hitch knot. Tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the filler cord on the left.
Working to the right, tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the same filler cord. Tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the filler cord on the right. Working to the left and using the same working cord, tie one more vertical double half hitch knot.
Repeat on the right side of your work using the same process.

Bottom Half of Diamond
Using the cord second from the left, tie 4 diagonal double half hitch knots working down and to the right.
Using the cord second from the right, repeat that process.
Tie one more double half hitch knot with the two middle cords.
Create another layer using the same process.

Using the cord 7th from the left as your filler cord, tie one more diagonal double half hitch knot working to the right.
Using the 6th cord - repeat.

Using the cord on the left as your working cord, tie one diagonal double half hitch knot to the cord on the right. Repeat with the next cord on the right. Using the cord on the left as your working cord, tie another diagonal double half hitch knot to the same filler cord.

Repeat that process on the right side of your work.

Using the cord 5th from the right as your filler cord, tie one diagonal double half hitch knot working down and to the right.
Using the cord 6th cord from the right - repeat.
Using the cord 4th from the left as your filler cord, tie one diagonal double half hitch knot working down and to the left.
Using the cord 5th from the left - repeat.

Using the cord 2nd from the left as your filler cord tie 4 diagonal double half hitch knots working down and to the right.
Using the cord on the left as your filler cord - repeat.
Using the left cord as your working cord and the cord to the right of that as your filler cord, tie one vertical double half hitch knot. Tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the working cord on the right.
Working to the left, tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the same filler cord. Tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the filler cord on the left. Working to the right and using the same working cord, tie one more vertical double half hitch knot.

Using the cord 5th from the left as your filler cord, tie 4 diagonal double half hitch knots working down and to the left.
Using the cord 6th from the left - repeat. Please note: Make sure you only tie 4 - I tied 5 and then had to undo one later.

Repeat that process on the right side of your work.

Using the right cord as your working cord and the cord to the left of that as your filler cord, tie one vertical double half hitch knot. Tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the working cord on the left.
Working to the right, tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the same filler cord. Tie another vertical double half hitch knot to the filler cord on the right. Working to the left and using the same working cord, tie one more vertical double half hitch knot.

Using the cord 5th from the right as your filler cord, tie 4 diagonal double half hitch knots working down and to the right.
Using the cord 6th from the right - repeat.

Using the inside left cord as your working cord, tie a diagonal double half hitch knot to the cord on the left of that cord.
Using the same working cord, tie another diagonal double half hitch knot to the next cord on the left.
Using the inside right cord as your working cord, tie a diagonal double half hitch knot to the cord on the right of that cord.
Using the same filler cord, tie 2 more diagonal double half hitch knots working down and to the left.
Using the cord 4th from the right as your filler cord, tie 3 diagonal double half hitch knots working down and to the left.

Using the cord on the left as your filler cord, tie 2 diagonal double half hitch knots working to the right.
Using the cord on the left as your filler cord, tie one diagonal double half hitch knot working to the right.

Repeat that process on the right side of your work.
