Swim 59 was one of the toughest… and one of the most rewarding.
We set off from Martinhal Beach towards Praia do Barranco, deciding to swim west to east because it was a 30-minute car journey between the two. A simple plan — except we completely misjudged the conditions and left the car at the wrong end.
Huge mistake.
The current was pushing hard against us the entire way.
But what a swim.
2 hours 40 minutes of fighting the Atlantic, stroke by stroke… and also surrendering to it in moments, letting the rhythm carry me. It felt like I shook off every mental cobweb I didn’t even realise I had. A real reminder of why I love this challenge — some swims are gentle, some are wild, and some make you proud just for refusing to quit.
The coastline around Sagres was breathtaking..
rugged cliffs, deep blue water, huge energy, and that wild west Algarve feeling where everything seems bigger, older, and more powerful.
Another swim done.
Another piece of the Algarve coastline conquered.
On to Swim 60! 💙🌍
