Trek Log - Day 1: Kafnu to Mulling campsite (26-27 August 2025)
Route : Kafnu ( 2,400m ) to Mulling.
Distance:- 11 km approx
Start time: 9:30 AM
Companion: A surprise mountain dog
After a long break from trekking, I finally hit the trails again. Left on August 26th, and after an overnight journey, I reached Kafnu village around 9.00 am the next morning. The journey was long and unsure if I will make it, due to landslides after Rampur Bushahr.
I grabbed some vegetables and milk before heading out, knowing my rucksack would get havier - and it did. The additional weight was definitely felt as the climb began. Around 9.30 AM, I started the trek towards Mulling campsite, which lies about 11km from Kafnu and involves a steady ascent through dense forest, small bridges, and a few steep pushes.
It was a tough first day. But a mountain dog started following me from the vegetables shop. At first, I wasn't sure what to do, but it added a strange mix of amusement and tension. I'll admit it: for a solo hiker, it was a bit of a confidence buster.
By the time I reached Mulling, tired and slightly overextended, I was greeted by Sahil, a kind and helpful young man at the campsite. He invited me to have dinner with them, which ment a lot on a solo journey. It reminded me of why trekking in these regions is more than just landscapes - it's also the people you unexpectedly meet.
Pitched my Alton Tarp for the night, guardian watching over me. No Tent. Just open air and gratitude.
