"Repulse the Monkey" involves stepping back, turning the waist, and using coordinated arm and hand movements to push away from an opponent. The movement can also be interpreted metaphorically as a method to calm the mind by expelling distracting thoughts. It requires shifting your weight back to an empty stance, stepping with the empty foot, and using your dantian (lower abdomen) to lead the movement.
