Released as a single in 1968, Fleetwood Mac recorded a cover of Little Willie John’s 1955 hit “Need Your Love So Bad.” Arguably the tastiest lead guitar Peter Green ever played. This track has everything – the relaxed, easy-going groove, the pure, sweet tone, the delicious vibrato, the brightness that elevates many tunes by Peter Green to a special plateau.
Of particular note (pun quite intended) are the series of four to six note riffs Green weaves through this tune’s intro. This virtually defines Peter Green. Everything truly divine about his guitar work shines through these scintillating little licks before verses even start.
Check out the first riff – a fairly common intro. It’s the same Jimmy Page uses in “Since I’ve Been Loving You,” and Johnny Winter in his live rendition of “It’s My Own Fault.” Exact same riff. We’re not saying one is better than the others, however it illustrates the individuality of their artistic styles.
We discuss this song and others in an article entitled: “The Essential Peter Green Playlist” at Classic Rock Forever (dot com) https://www.classicrockforever.com/cl.... Dedicated to the best music this world has ever seen. Curated by internationally recognized Rock Journalist Jim Esposito
