This is a quick summary of some of the things Steven Pedigo, a professor at the University of Texas Austin who also has a home in Great Barrington, and I discussed this morning in an interview filmed for an event in October, the 2024 WRLDCTY Urban Summit. The producer's precis: "Prosperity and The Third Place. Join Steven Pedigo as he sits with Karen Christensen in the picturesque Berkshires to uncover the powerful connection between prosperity and the "Third Place." A "third place" is a convivial, regular hangout—not home and not work—a place where everyone knows your name. Karen corresponded for years with Ray Oldenburg, who coined the term in his 1989 book The Great Good Place, and now, she's entrusted with the honour of completing a new edition which will be released in early 2025."
