Chinese Toffee Apples Recipe - Candy Apples Chinese Style Caramel apples

Toffee or candy apples always remind me of my childhood, Autumn, funfairs, carnivals and November the 5th Fireworks Night.
From a child's point of view is there anything better than a crisp apple covered in sweet toffee?
This is the slightly more grown up Chinese style toffee/candy apple recipe. Kids will still love it (especially with ice cream) but it also makes the perfect cold evening dessert.

4 medium apples
100g plain flour
100g cornflour/cornstarch
1 tsp baking powder
100 ml of plain water
Approx 200g of granulated sugar
1 litre of cooking oil for deep frying
Some ice cream on the side
