What is Naturopathic Medicine?

We often get asked what Naturopathic Medicine entails, so we thought we'd make a video about it! In this video we talk about our philosophy, education, and our approach to patient care.

Naturopathic Doctors are trained as primary care providers but the approach differs because we focus on preventative medicine and use natural therapies to support the body in healing itself. We act as detectives to find the true, root cause of each patient's symptoms. Naturopathic philosophy is also unique because it believes in the vital force.

Our education consists of 4-5 years of post-graduate medical training that is clinically-based, with over 1200 hours of clinical shifts and preceptorships. Our schooling initially mirrors conventional medicine as we get extensive training in all the biomedical sciences and health system specialities. Additionally, we are trained in all the naturopathic modalities, which include: botanical medicine, homeopathy, counseling, nutrition, physical medicine, and hydrotherapy.

Naturopathic appointments are unique because NDs spend extra time with patients. We strive to empower our patients through education and we spend time doing individualized research for each case. We take a truly integrative approach to medicine!
