In the first part, you watched how Vidura was born as a result of a divine curse and how he consistently stood against the unrighteous actions of the Kauravas, fearlessly protesting despite being insulted by Duryodhana. He always protected the righteous Pandavas.
In this episode, you will see how Vidura becomes furious upon discovering the sinister plot.
The only person who openly protested this heinous act of the Kauravas was Vidura — none of the other elders dared raise their voices.Vidura was even insulted by Dhritarashtra for his continued support of the Pandavas and was driven away from the royal palace. During his exile, Vidura met the Pandavas in the Kamyaka forest. Later, Dhritarashtra regretted his harsh actions and humbly requested Vidura to return to Hastinapur. Despite being wronged, Vidura remained humble and expressed no arrogance. He reaffirmed that his loyalty was to the kingdom — as its minister, it was his duty to serve the land faithfully.
After their exile in the forest and their incognito stay in the palace of King Virata, the Pandavas came to Upaplavya-nagara, on the border of the Matsya kingdom, and began planning how to reclaim their rightful kingdom of Indraprastha. Initially, they had no intention of going to war; they sent ambassadors to negotiate a peaceful settlement. However, Duryodhana arrogantly refused all terms of compromise.Seeing the futility of the negotiations, the Pandavas, Lord Krishna, and their allies began to prepare for other measures. Lord Krishna Himself went to Hastinapura as an envoy to negotiate peace, but Duryodhana, blinded by pride and hatred, not only rejected Krishna’s proposal but even attempted to arrest Him. At this, Lord Krishna revealed His divine Vishvarupa (Universal Form), terrifying all present in the Kaurava court.
As a result, war became inevitable. The Kurukshetra War ensued, in which the Kauravas were utterly defeated, and the Pandavas regained their rightful kingdom.
During the war, Vidura remained in the background; he did not participate in the battle nor offer any counsel to the Kauravas during the conflict. After fifteen years of Yudhishthira’s peaceful rule, Dhritarashtra, along with Kunti, Gandhari, and Sanjaya, decided to retire to the Himalayas for a life of pilgrimage and penance, guided by Vidura.In the Himalayas, Vidura undertook deep penance. After some time, the Pandavas came to visit them at the hermitage of the sage Sarojupa . They met everyone except Vidura. Curious, Yudhishthira inquired about Vidura’s whereabouts and was informed that he was engaged in Prayopaveshan— a fast unto death without food or water.Yudhishthira hurried to see Vidura. However, Vidura, immersed in spiritual absorption, no longer recognized Yudhishthira. As Yudhishthira approached him, he suddenly felt a profound spiritual experience—an overwhelming sense of energy and inner strength coursing through his body and mind. In that moment, Vidura’s life force merged into Yudhishthira, and Vidura peacefully passed away.Then a divine voice (a celestial announcement) declared that Vidura’s body did not need cremation, as he was none other than Dharmaraja (the god of righteousness) himself, and Yudhishthira, being his son (born through the grace of Dharmaraja), had now fully assimilated Vidura’s spiritual essence. Yudhishthira then returned to the Pandavas and narrated the entire experience.
