This week is a mix of problem solving and everyday moments as winter settles in on the property. While colder temperatures mean the woodpile is shrinking fast, they also create the right conditions to finally start one of the outdoor tasks that had originally been planned for summer. But first things first. We’re in need of some serious reorganizing indoors, from rearranging Odin’s room to setting up the Christmas tree. We take some time to reset, share a few quiet family moments, and work our way through the long list of small things that keep daily life moving forward.As the cold really takes hold, Philippe sees the opportunity to begin an important outdoor task. Creating a shallow moat between the sloped embankment and the driveway will help take some of the pressure off the French drain during heavy rain and give the water another path to follow. Later, it will be filled with stones and brought flush with the driveway so water can still pass through while keeping the surface stable, drivable, and easy to maintain. The wood stacked in the garden also needs a new home. With delays on the barn roof renovation, we’re worried it could deteriorate if it stays outside all winter, so moving it becomes another priority. By the end of the week, Philippe has made good progress on the moat… until something serious happens with the bobcat. Stay tuned!
