In this presentation titled "Hurricane Agnes in Virginia", Earnie Porta discusses the history of hurricanes and the impact of Hurricane Agnes on Virginia.
Earnie Porta has served as Mayor of the Town of Occoquan from 2006 to 2014 and from 2018 to the present. He holds a bachelor’s degree (Foreign Service), a law degree (JD), and a PhD (History) from Georgetown University and an MA (History) from George Mason University. Dr. Porta has been an active board member and officer of more than a dozen nonprofit and civic organizations, among them the Occoquan Historical Society, Historic Prince William, the Prince William Historic Preservation Foundation, and the Prince William County Historical Commission. Among other credits, he has published in Terra Incognitae (the Journal of the Society for the History of Discoveries), and in 2010, authored a book on Occoquan in Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series. Porta is also the author of the 2024 publication Hurricane Agnes in Virginia.
