On this song written by George Harrison, McCartney played a bass line as usual (on his new Rickenbacker bass) and then overdubbed another bass running through a fuzz pedal. Here are both of those lines (regular on left, fuzz on right).
McCartney's bass lines on this album are fantastic and are light years ahead of what he played on the previous album, Help! That album featured good, solid bass lines. His playing on Rubber Soul can be considered the beginning of his "mature" style of melodic playing. Because every song on this album features a fun and inventive bass line, I'll be posting videos of every song over the course of the next few weeks.
For the regular bass line on the left, I am playing a 1985 Rickenbacker 4003 (red) strung with LaBella flatwound strings. For the fuzz bass line on the right, I am playing a 2022 4003S (maple) strung with Rotosound roundwound strings. Both basses are going through a SansAmp VT Bass Deluxe.
