This short video is a summary of a service learning adventure trip designed and facilitated by Dr. Matt Strand. Twenty Polaris Expeditionary Learning School students in 7th-10th grade traveled from their hometown of Fort Collins, Colorado to participate in a coral restoration project in Florida. A grant from the Poudre School District Foundation helped make this trip possible. Lyrics to the original song, "Finding the Wrong in the Light", are listed below:
Finding the Wrong in the Light
We used to go by the sea,
Do you think it remembers me?
When the sky fell to the ground,
it’s all gone now.
Sunken pools of green,
the sandy banks unseen,
when the clouds are falling down,
it’s all gone now.
Finding the wrong in the light,
dancing in rings of white.
Now I see that with knowing comes the dark,
a midnight lining in the ocean’s heart,
but at least the moon lights up the night,
not everything’s so black and white.
Slowing sinking now,
gilded castles falling down,
when the colors rust, it shows,
see the golden glow.
We’re falling from the surface,
I finally found a purpose,
the truth falls with what I know,
see the golden glow.
Finding the wrong in the light,
dancing in rings of white.
Now I see that with knowing comes the dark,
a midnight lining in the ocean’s heart,
but at least the moon lights up the night,
not everything’s so black and white.
