Exploring Kosovo's edgy, laid-back capital Pristina

There's a reason Kosovo's capital Pristina is a modern, post-World War II city largely devoid of centuries-old structures despite having been settled long ago.
After the war the regime of the former Yugoslavia (of which Kosovo was part as a region of Serbia) made Pristina a regional capital and embarked on a massive building campaign, destroying much of what was old in favor of the new in keeping with the mantra of the times.
As an unintended consequence today's Pristina is both edgy and quirky. The vibe here is surprisingly relaxed for a city only a few miles from Kosovo's border with Serbia (a border protected for the better part of three decades by United Nations peacekeepers and still a flash point since Kosovo's self-declared independence from Serbia in 2008).
