Hey all, as I've said maybe a hundred times before... GOG is back. Ups and downs with work, getting old, the flu, work, training, work, etc. has really set me back with the vids. But maybe some changes coming soon.
At any rate, here is a grainy iphone vid of the last bag round in my workout last night. For those that care, I'm working a light bag and using 16 oz gloves (which I do most of the time in part due to old and sore hands--and the need to be able to gig on electric guitar) and (also for my hands lately) a light heavy bag. It probably weighs a bit closer to a medium bag, but I stay away from heavy, heavy bags these days due to a zillion years of bag work.
My workout went as follows:
Three three-minute rounds on jump rope
One three-minute round of situps (variations like Marvin Haglers in there too).
One three-minute round of shadow boxing
Four 4.5 minute rounds on the bag (last one actually went five minutes). First with bag gloves, then running through three pairs of gloves (all fit and feel a bit different).
Then one "speed bag simulation drill" for three minutes (no speed bag at home).
Three minutes of step drills and slips (a bit like shadow boxing--check out the old vids) with weighted head gear.
A shoulder punch drill with holding weights (but not like what you think--I'll show this in a future vid)
One three-minute situp round
Rollouts with the roller (you've probably seen GGG and Floyd do this).
Back exercises with one of those thick rubber bands (rows).
And a bit of stretching to end it.
Yep, I was a bit sloppy with punches not getting back, but the focus in this round was to work combos from both ortho and southpaw and "keep the pop." So less on speed, but making sure to get in some crisp punches even when I'm tired. To do that, you have to concentrate on mechanics and avoid getting tight (from being tired) and pushing your punches. Plus, you want to run through combos, etc.
Now... what GOG should have focused on--getting punches back to a guard position, not being lazy and moving after the last punch (slip, bob, weave, get out--something) so this vid is a bit of a do what I say and not what I do...
But hang in there. I'm old and
