India’s air combat capabilities are set for a leap with the Astra Mk2, an indigenous Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile developed to engage enemy aircraft over 200 km away. With dual-pulse propulsion and a homegrown RF seeker, Astra Mk2 ensures high-speed accuracy even in jamming environments — a feature mastered by only a handful of nations. The missile will arm the Sukhoi-30 MKI, Tejas Mk1A, and the upcoming AMCA stealth fighter. Once inducted by 2026, the Astra Mk2 will give Indian pilots the power to strike first — long before being detected — redefining aerial warfare over South Asia. Comparable to China’s PL-15 and the U.S. AMRAAM, Astra Mk2 levels the regional playing field while strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence technology. With this, India joins the elite club of nations mastering long-range precision air combat.
