Semi-realistic clothing in anime paintings is a style I’m into right now, so I wanted to show the process it took for me to learn and draw semi-realistically in my anime style paintings. It also just so happened to be an art study of one of the most famous portrait artists in Britain of the 1700s, Thomas Lawrence.

You might ask, if you want to draw/paint anime semi-realistically, why didn’t you study an artist who does draw like that, like Liduke, ccroquette, etc. ?
I was doing some art research for fun, and when I stumbled across Thomas Lawrence’s paintings, I was shocked. I knew of a few historical painters like John Singer Sargent, Rembrandt, J. C. Leyendecker, but for some reason I just have never seen his paintings before, even though they’re so good. I’m happy I went down the rabbit hole and found his art.
Also I have done a Liduke style study before! But it was a few years back so now I kind of want to do a redraw… ah looking at my old attempts are so… hm. Well, you can see the improvement for yourself.
