The damage was caused by leaky bolts letting water into the plywood and balsa parts of the hull for many years. Repairing the area meant cutting the hull open, pulling out all the wet balsa and plywood core material, adding new core, and then closing the hull back up. New laminations were laid up with vinyl ester resin and 1708 biaxial cloth.
The area that caused the problem is now solid fiberglass and will not leak again!
