Chinese characters written in ink survived on thousands of year old oracle bones

A fish swimming through history floats to the surface. The clumsy lines that look like ancient brushstrokes form the shape of a fish. The “fish” on the plastron of a turtle comes from the Shang dynasty.
Today’s Chinese character for fish (鱼) evolved from it. Among the world’s four major ancient written languages, written Chinese is the only one that has been passed down to this day without interruption. Shang dynasty characters are the earliest known Chinese characters. The existence of the oracle bones might be an example of survivorship bias.
"Treasures in Shanghai Museum" is a mini-documentary series that features the treasures and their timeless stories, co-presented by Shanghai Museum and Shanghai Media Group (SMG).
