How much clay to use for a dinner plate?
I have been working a lot time to design and create my own pottery dinner plates. I think I have right design in place, I love the clay, the shape, texture and glazes on the plates.
But one last thing I had to deal with is the final weight of the plates.
I make my dinner plates in stoneware. They are all hand made - wheel thrown on the potter's wheel. So they will never be super light. But still, I don't want them to feel heavy. And some of my friends and buys did complain a little big about the weight of my first series of plates. So I have been testing how to make them lighter.
In this video I show you the final results of my plates and how they now company to the weight of commercial, mass produced dinner plates.
