2 Timothy 4:3–4 (KJV)
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
my opinion” means:
A personal belief, judgment, or viewpoint that belongs to you.
It doesn’t have to be based on fact or universal truth—it’s shaped by your experiences, feelings, reasoning, or perspective.
It can agree with or differ from others’ opinions, and it’s not the same as objective knowledge (facts).
For example:
Fact: Water freezes at 32°F (0°C).
Opinion: I think iced coffee tastes better than hot coffee.
👉 So, “my opinion” = what you think or believe, even if it’s not proven true for everyone.
Reflect = show or think back. (internal → shining outward)
Deflect = turn aside or push away. (external → blocking or avoiding)
Deflect
From Latin deflectere = “to turn aside.”
Meaning: To divert, ward off, or shift away from oneself.
Examples:
A shield deflects arrows.
Someone might deflect blame instead of taking responsibility.
Biblical sense:
Ephesians 6:16 – “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” → Faith deflects the enemy’s attacks.
But negatively: Adam tried to deflect blame onto Eve (Genesis 3:12).
Reflect
From Latin reflectere = “to bend back.”
Meaning: To mirror, to show back, or to think deeply.
Examples:
A mirror reflects your image.
We reflect on (think about) our choices.
Biblical sense:
2 Corinthians 3:18 – “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory…” → Believers reflect Christ’s glory.
Psalm 119:15 – “I will meditate [reflect] in thy precepts…”
haven is the place where God's word originates
React = fast, emotional, instinctive.
Respond = slow, thoughtful, controlled.
Respond
Comes from the Latin respondere = “to answer back.”
A response is usually thoughtful, intentional, and measured.
Example: If someone insults you but you pause, think, and reply with grace, that’s a response.
In the Bible:
1 Peter 3:15 – “Be ready always to give an answer [respond] to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
React
Comes from the Latin reagere = “to act back.”
A reaction is often automatic, impulsive, or emotional.
Example: If someone insults you and you immediately get angry, that’s a reaction.
In the Bible:
Exodus 32:19 – When Moses saw the golden calf, “Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands…” → that was a reaction.
Psalm 118:24 (KJV):
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
John 8:23 (KJV):
“And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.”
luke 17:21 the kingdom of god have come within you
psalm 19:1-4
1 Peter 3:15 – “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
This speaks of believers giving an answer, but it reflects God equipping His people with answers.
Proverbs 15:23
King James Version
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
