Throughout life, we learn how to hide our real stories, because we are taught that if we talk about our struggles in public, we will be judged, will not be worth of love and respect. The fear to be judged is holding people back from being real, but we can transform that fear into a story, which brings value to our lives. In her talk, Karolina Mazetyte, social entrepreneur and co-founder of International Youth to Youth Initiative, reveals how we can transform the fear of judgment into stories, which empowers people to not be ashamed to be themselves and talk about their own struggles in public, to talk about the “taboo” topics, such as mental illness, eating disorders, suicide, etc. openly and listen to them with empathy. Because it can not only empower people to reach out for help, follow their dreams, but sometimes even save someones life.
Karolina is a social entrepreneur, management consultant, writer, and wellbeing facilitator. She is the proud co-founder and CEO of the internationally recognized Youth to Youth initiative. When asked about her connection to transformation, she believes she should empower individuals to not fear being judged – “The fear to be judged was holding me back from being real, but I transformed it into a story, which today empowers people around the world to not be ashamed to be themselves and talk about their own struggles in public. I want people to be able to talk about the ‘‘taboo‘‘, sensitive topics openly and listen to them with empathy because it can not only empower people to reach out for help, follow their dreams, but sometimes even save someone’s life.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
