Five generations of the Pawar family have inhabited this house in Chamarajapuram, Mysuru, that over the last few years has also made space for a modest courtyard restaurant where guests are served homely dishes that celebrate the Maratha lineage of the family but incorporating local ingredients and keeping the city’s palate in mind. I visit them impromptu one afternoon and after a warming conversation with the hosts and a quick tour of the house, sit down for a delicious meaty meal that I would gladly return to in a heartbeat.
